• Review:: 'Tender Words for a Tough Topic Tenderly told and stunningly illustrated! Dorothy Carter tells how a little girl says goodbye to an elderly friend. Miss Lela embodies the mothering elders who blessed many of our childhoods. In the story, "Sugar Plum" learns to accept the reality of Miss Lela's death. She discovers strength and comfort in remembering her. Southern sunlight shines through the illustrations. A great book for a child dealing with loss. A touching tribute to the "Miss Lelas" who nurtured many of us!

• Review:: 'Previous poster is wrong about translation It is common knowledge that an article needs to be placed in front of nouns in Spanish and that this is not necessary for English nouns. It is absolutely correct that this was done in this book. "Color cafý" is a term used quite often throughout Latin America, but especially in Mexico and Central America, to mean brown.
• Review:: 'Great way to increase color retention and build vocabulary The bright simple pictures are what drew me to use this book for my toddler Spanish classes. Yes, the "grammar" of this book is a little off (see other reviewers' comments), but the colors are all correct, and children LOVE it. This book is a great way to review Spanish colors after learning them from a workbook like Flip Flop Spanish. You could also use it to introduce the colors, and then follow up with the Lesson in the workbook, or even use the CD, and have the child turn to the correct page while listening - since the CD has both English and Spanish, this would be a great confidence builder before doing the "written" work. All in all, definitely worth the money. All three of my children have enjoyed it, as well as the many students through my classes.
• Review:: 'In response to Roberta Harding Comments... Roberta we are reviewing a children's book here, not a grammatical piece of art. By the way, I speak Spanish (native) and I don't see anything tremendously wrong with this book.
• Review:: 'Error-filled As other reviewers have noted, there are problems with this book, despite its laudable intent. In short, it is doubtful that the author speaks fluent Spanish herself, and it seems as if she simply opened a Spanish-English dictionary to create the book.

  For example, for 'azul/blue' she displays a fish, which she calls a "pescado." As any second-year Spanish student can tell you, the animal is a 'pez' whereas prepared food is called 'pescado' (literally, "that which has been fished"). Also, on the back cover she writes "ýRecolecte todos los libres en la serie!" (Collect all the books in the series). The verb "recolectar" means "to gather", not "to collect" as in a collection (she needed to use "coleccionar")

  As a Spanish professor, I commend her good intentions with this book, but I cannot recommend this book until the errors are corrected.

• Review:: 'Great way to teach colors in English & Spanish At first, I resisted purchasing books from this series because I wanted an actual picture of whatever was being described, like in the "My First Board Book" series by DK Publishing. However, I believe that "Mis Colores" is an excellent way to teach colors, and succeeds in one place where the Board Book Series (and some others) fail. I do not like when colors and shapes are combined, for example, "red square."

  In regards to another reviewer's comments, my understanding of Spanish is that the article is placed before the noun, so "el pescado" is correct and just "pescado" is not. This is also another detail that I have noticed many bilingual board books lack.
